Hamza Ashraf is a Queer Pakistani visual artist, writer, curator and designer based in Leeds, UK. Working across photography, poetry, moving image, and installation, his practice explores the intersections of shame, intimacy, worship, and queer identity through deeply personal and emotionally charged storytelling.
Alongside his artistic work, Ashraf is a designer specialising in print, publication, and identity systems. He has designed and produced two self-published books; we’re just trying to learn how to love and We Fear No God, But Ourselves, as well as exhibition materials for various programmes and a range of commissioned posters for both print and digital. His approach is rooted in narrative, culture & detail: treating every project as both a system and an object of intimacy, with particular care for typography, layout, and the craft of print.
Ashraf’s work has been featured in DAZED, Cold Magazine, Fisheye, and Gay.it, and exhibited at Fotografia Europea 2025, Village Books, and Offprint Projects 2024 at Tate Modern. His books have also been distributed internationally across the UK, USA, Canada, and Germany. He is currently developing DeepState, a publishing imprint dedicated to supporting Asian and African artists in the North of England through a biannual magazine, curated publications, and community-led activations. Ashraf is also a studio holder at SERF, an artist-led project space in Leeds.
